Travel Tips for Agadir
Practical, checked advice to help you enjoy Agadir and the surrounding region with fewer surprises.
Best time to visit
- Agadir has a mild climate all year, tempered by the Atlantic; it is a genuine year-round destination.
- Spring and autumn are comfortable for both the beach and day trips inland.
- Summer is warm on the coast but much hotter inland — plan valley and mountain trips for the morning.
- Winter days are often sunny and mild, but evenings are cool; bring a jacket. It is also the main surf season.
Money
- The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD, often written DH).
- Dirhams are generally obtained inside Morocco — exchange offices at the airport and banks in town, and ATMs are widespread in Agadir.
- Keep small notes and coins for taxis, tips and market stalls.
- Rules on carrying dirhams out of the country change; check current customs guidance before you leave and spend or exchange what you can.
Getting around
- Orange petits taxis run within the city — ask the driver to use the meter, or agree the fare before you set off.
- Grands taxis link towns in the region; they are larger and often shared.
- City buses also operate in Agadir.
- Roads into the hills are winding, so allow extra time for trips inland.
Markets & Souk El Had
- Souk El Had is closed on Mondays.
- Sunday is usually the busiest day; Tuesday to Thursday tend to be calmer.
- On Fridays many stalls close for a while around midday prayers.
- Bargaining is normal in many sections — keep it friendly.
Dress & etiquette
- Swimwear is fine on the beach and at pools; cover up when you head into town.
- In markets, villages and religious sites, covering shoulders and knees is respectful.
- Always ask before photographing people.
- During Ramadan (dates move each year), avoid eating and drinking in public in daytime where you can, out of courtesy.
Sun & sea safety
- The sun is strong all year — use high-factor sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, and drink plenty of water.
- The Atlantic has powerful waves and currents. Swim near lifeguards where present and follow the beach flags.
- Never swim alone or after drinking alcohol, and keep a close eye on children.
- At rock pools in Paradise Valley, check depth before entering and never jump in blindly.
